Zarkent village is located in a mountainous area in the central part of the Tashkent region in Parkent district.  Approximately 9,700 people live in Zarkent. There is a Rural Citizen Council and 4 communities.
The village has 4 schools. Rain fed agriculture is favored by a mild continental climate. The total area under rain fed cultivation is 6,000ha which is mainly private farms with an average of 3 ha per farm.  In late 2008, as a result of the decree land amalgamation, the number of local farms, including several wheat farms, was decreased from 700 to 173 with an average acreage of 15 per farm.
Basic infrastructures in need of rehabilitation. As there is no canal, aquifer or river, drinking water comes mainly from two mountain springs.
There is a foreign processing company located in the village that mainly exports to Russia. A second company for local and export wine production and spirit plans to begin its operations in 2009.  Because of its good location and climate there is good potential for tourisms and bio-food production.
